The Menil Collection is a unique museum situated in Houston’s Montrose area. It houses an unique collection of art from the 20th century, featuring renowned works from Rothko to Warhol and more.

Upon entering the building, I felt a sense of serenity as I soaked in the nuances of each work of art. For instance, one room featured works by renowned artist Cy Twombly, who used bright colors to create beautiful abstract artwork. With every step I took further into The Menil Collection, I felt myself slowly disconnecting from the world while connecting with something much greater: beauty and creativity.

I also discovered that The Menil Collection holds outdoor events regularly that are perfect for couples looking for touristy romantic things to do in Houston. The outdoor sculpture garden was especially beautiful in the evening and has plenty of seating areas for people to admire all these wonderful works of art together.

There are plenty of spots to have a romantic picnic or enjoy the beauty of nature in complete privacy. Walking along the waterfront breeze feels so refreshing and the views of downtown Houston add a unique touch to the atmosphere.

At night, the situation gets even more romantic. The waterfront lights up beautifully with stars in the sky and it's breathtaking to watch from afar! The park also offers canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding for those who really want to experience something special.

The museum is cleared tucked away in the Memorial Park neighborhood and offers absolutely stunning views of manicured gardens and grounds. On top of that, the collection inside Rienzi features Italian decorative arts from the 15th to 20th centuries, making it a great spot for a romantic stroll through history.

We started our visit with a tour through the lovely landscaped gardens located on the estate grounds which were full of intricate sculptures, vibrant plants, and plenty of cozy spots to snuggle up. We then took our time browsing through exhibitions featuring legendary works by Sargent, El Greco, Monet, Degas, and many more.

The Cistern is so romantic as it is dark inside, making it feel more intimate and special than any other traditional date spots. The soft lighting gives off a mysterious vibe, giving you plenty opportunities for exploration, conversation and cuddling.

From the moment you step into the park, you get an instant feeling of tranquility and peace. The large trees provide plenty of shade and there are benches tucked away to relax on as well. It’s also incredibly peaceful and quiet due to the amount of open space.

The walking trails in Smither Park are quite romantic and allow couples to explore together while taking in the stunning views. With winding paths and trees growing everywhere, this is the perfect setting for a romantic stroll or walk.

There are also several activities to do within the park that make it one of the best romantic things to do in Houston. There's something for everyone - try out their disc golf course, have a picnic under one of their covered pavilions, or just take a leisurely stroll across the lake.
